Prof. Edgar J. Lesher of the University's aerospace engineering department prepares to get out of his plane after unofficially breaking the world speed record yesterday for piston-engine planes of less than 1,102 pounds gross weight over a 500 kilometer course (310 miles). Lesher flew from Willow Run Airport to Muskegon and back at an unofficial 181 miles per hour, to better the world record of Italian Iginio Guagnellini of 169 miles per hour, set in 1954.
