First Reported From Area: The News traditionally depicts the first deer-season success reported to it. This new season, Archer Gerald Quackenbush, 306 Gralake, was No. 1. He dropped the big (130-150 pound) doe near Marston in Wexford County on the second day of the bow-and-arrow season now under way. Quackenbush and the other archers report "it's a good year."

Prison Fare: These five deer killed by automobiles in Washtenaw county Saturday and Sunday are being cut up today into venison for the menu of the County Jail and other area nonprofit institutions. Deer involved in accidents of confiscated by Conservation officers are turned over to the county Sheriff's Department for disposal. Left to right are Ken Immel, Clyde Lee and John Tessmer of the Wilson Immel Meat Packing Co., which is processing the animals for the department.

The top picture was taken in the refrigerator vault of the Artificial Ice & Coal Co. The bear on the cold bed was shot by A. K. Moore, of Dearborn, and the coyote at the end of the line was taken by Ray Jacox, of Belleville. Just a few of the more than 50 deer shot by local hunters and held in cold storage at the time the picture was taken are included in this photo.

SHOWS MALE HUNTERS HOW: Deer-hunting, with the test it imposes on endurance and skill is usually considered a sport for men only but Mrs. Wanda Walker, 1142 Catherine St., disproved this theory last week when she invaded the wilds of Drummer island and shot the fine buck shown on the right in the above picture. To make her feat more unusual, Mrs. Walker shot the deer on the first day of the season, Nov. 13.
