State Police of the Ypsilanti post Saturday smashed this still, used to make illegal "moonshine" whisky, and arrested a Detroit man found operating the equipment. The still was found in a densely wooded section of Wayne county's Sumpter Township, southeast of Willis, by (left to right) Sumpter Constable Terry Williams and Troopers William H. Lanphear and Carl W. Hulander. Sixteen barrels and the 250-gallon steel drum (center) used to make the moonshine were destroyed by the officers.

These two Ypsilanti post state troopers checked a car early today and found, carefully packed in the trunk and rear seat, more than 430 two-quart jars of illegal moonshine whisky, on its way from a Tennessee still to an unknown destination somewhere in the Detroit area. A Dearborn couple and a Tennessean were arrested. The officers are Troopers Leonard F. Miller Jr., (left) and Carl W. Hulander.
