Here, two houses sold by the University to individuals make the turn from N. Fifth Ave. where the U-M will build a new women's athletic building. A third house was removed from the city's newly-acquired parking lot on N. Ashley St.

University Ave. and Geddes Ave., the structure is the first building of an extensive project to expand facilities for physical education for women. The building was started in October, 1952, and will be ready for use within two weeks.

20 FEET DEEP AT END: The diving end of the new U-M pool for women is 20 feet deep. At the other end it is 3 1/2 feet deep. Six lanes are provided for racing. The building also provides locker space for about 500 persons. According to Dr. Margaret Bell, chairman of the Women's Physical Education Department, the pool will give some 5,000 women students opportunities for swimming and water safety instruction. Ten-foot diving board is at right.
