Eastern Michigan College Campus Growing: To meet expected record-high enrollments in the coming years, Eastern Michigan College has launched an extensive building program at its Ypsilanti campus. This aerial photo, looking southwest toward the heart of Ypsilanti, shows most of the EMC campus. The arrows point to a new five-unit coed dormitory (left) and the college's new $1,500,000 general science building, which will house the physics and chemistry departments. The first unit of the new dormitories and the science building are scheduled to be ready for the opening of classes in September, 1957. Adjacent to the southeast of the science building site is one of the campus parking lots, which are being enlarged and paved. At bottom left are the first units of the college's married students apartments, which were opened last fall. Additional units are planned north of these first buildings.

West Side Development: Stretching into Ypsilanti township beyond the city of Ypsilanti's west limits is the new extension to Collegewood Dr. (above) which is bordered on both sides by completed homes and homes under construction. Above Cornell Rd. (running from left to right at upper center) are 12 homes built on Collegewood by the United Homes, Inc., which was followed by a lull in building. Recently the NuSharona Home Builders Inc., of Detroit took over the entire College Heights subdivision and have taken out 27 building permits on Collegewood (note completed basements and model home).

Work on MSNC Apartment Buildings Progresses: This is an aerial view of six Michigan State Normal College apartment buildings for married students. Sixty-one of the apartments will be one-bedroom units and another 12, two bedrooms each. This view looks west, toward the Ypsilanti intersection of Kingwood Ave. and Collegewood Dr. (out of sight at top). Half of the units in the $563,000 project are scheduled for completion in September, a spokesman for the Miller-Davis Construction Co. of Kalamazoo said. No public funds are involves in financing the self-liquidating project.

Boost School Enrollment: The sudden increase in the number of children under 20 years of age in the Ypsilanti School District is being directly attributed to a pair of housing developments southeast of Ypsilanti - the Nancy Park and Shady Knolls subdivisions. This aerial view (top) is looking north toward those two residential areas. The Ypsilanti Board of Education last night bought a school site adjacent to the clump of trees (center) directly north of Nancy Park (lower development).
