Research Park's First Unit: Robert W. Muzzy, Federal-Mogul Division general manager (wielding shovel), turned the first spadeful of earth today, signifying the start of construction of the division's new, $460,00 office-laboratory building in Ann Arbor's Research Park. Federal-Mogul is the first concern to build in the 210-acre Research Park at S. State and Ellsworth Rds. The building is expected to be completed by July.

General Ground View: The drive, with curb and gutter, street lights, and general landscaping at the park's main entry plus the Federal-Mogul office-laboratory building carry a message which might be phrased like this: "Ann Arbor wants new research industry and we have a subdivision complete with landscaping and plenty of parking space, where you -- research industry anywhere -- can locate." Cost per acre is $10,200, which is devoid of any profit. This is possible since the land is being sold by a non-profit group called Grater Ann Arbor Research Park, Inc. Its members serve without pay in an effort to build up Ann Arbor and keep it the "Research Center of the Midwest."

To Be Finished Soon: This is Federal-Mogul's new office-laboratory building in Research Park. The 23,200-square-foot facility will be sufficiently completed early next month to permit Federal-Mogul to start shifting equipment from its present 2355 W. Stadium Blvd. location. Complete occupancy of the new facility is anticipated by early in January, according to Gordon J. LeBrasse, director of the Federal-Mogul Division, Research & Development. More than 20 employees of that concern are doing research and development work on a new, improved materials for sleeve-type bearings generally used in the automotive industry. How does LeBrasse feel about moving to Research Park? "We're happy; we just want neighbors," he said.

Pinpoints Location Of Park:Motorists on I-94 which abuts Research Park on the north, see this 10x40-foot sign on park property, identifying its location. Quick access to Research Park is gained from out-state via I-94. The park is served by Ann Arbor Railroad and Municipal Airport is within half a mile of the park. Its accessibility is heightened by the location of Willow Run and Detroit Metropolitan Airports, which are within 10 and 20 miles away, respectively. The park is about a mile south of Ann Arbor' main city limits via S. State Rd., main access road from the city.
