DEXTER HAS PLENTY OF MEAT TODAY: There was no meat shortage in Dexter today as the village celebrated the Fourth of July. Feature of the celebration was the ox roast. The ox shown on the spit above dressed out at 703 pounds and was expected to furnish enough meat for 6,000 sandwiches. The ox was barbecued over a charcoal fire for 36 hours. It made two and a half revolutions each minute during this time while covered with grease to keep it from burning. Shown at the left is Chef George Wolfe of Grass Lake, famed in this region for his culinary efforts at such occasions while at the extreme right is George Adams, chairman of the Kiwanis celebration committee.
