Learning By Eating Community High School students crowded around a pre-Thanksgiving feast Wednesday featuring everything from egg rolls and fried rice to black-eyed peas, enchiladas and adobe bread. Students and teachers prepared foods to represent the four primary American ethnic groups of color: black, Asian, Spanish surname and Native Americans. As part of the multi-ethnic assembly students prepared informative exhibits and presented a program featuring cultural contributions of the four ethnic groups. This selection of cookbooks from the 1820s shows some of the fine print quality of the period. To reach customers far and wide, Jan Longone publishes a catalog of the books available through her store. Much of her business is done by phone, with collectors and customers who are searching for a particular book or genre of cookbooks.
