Remember? Last summer The News pictured 16-year-old Carol Cummins harvesting the first cucumber from the 20 x 40 Project GROW plot at the County Farm that the Cummins family - Mr. and Mrs. David L. and four children - worked. "Worked" is the word, Mrs. Cummins recalls now, thinking of the day she brought home 45 lbs. of corn, zucchini, green peppers and watermelon on her bicycle. But the Cumminses are confirmed GROWers. They've already got their peas in this year, and Mrs. Cummins says they're busy preparing the ground for cantaloupe, watermelon, corn, broccoli, beans, squash and carrots. And they're not the only ones. At left James Jimerson, with enthusiastic help from son Arthur, 3 1/2, rakes out weeds and winter debris from the raspberry patch at the Community Organic Garden before spreading new mulch. Turn to pages 20 and 21 for reports from Dimensions Writer Eleanor Gerstenberger on Ann Arbor's two fantastically popular community gardening projects.
