As the old year wanes and the new year approaches, parents-to-be seem to fall into two camps: those who want their bundles of joy to arrive before midnight for income tax deductions and those who want to have the first babies of the year. Shown holding her priceless - but $600 for Internal Revenue Service purposes - arrival is Mrs. Rudolph (Darla) Carriere of 1363 Byron, Ypsilanti. The Carriere lad arrived at 6:38 a.m. yesterday at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was five hours old at this "sitting."

Sober Reflections On New Year's Morn. Actually, the Anderson twins of 615 Miner St., who are shown above primping for the celebration today of their joint fourth New Year's Birthday, are seldom as sober or reflective as the photograph might have you believe. Usually they are the vibrant life of the neighborhood. Penny (right) and her twin brother, Phillip, are the children of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Anderson. An older sister, Juanita, is accompanist for the Ann Arbor High School orchestra and a capella choir, and an older brother, James jr., plays on the high school football team. Fifth of the children is Wallace. The three older are all talented musicians.
