All the delightful mysteries of the farm came to life for this Bach School kindergarten class yesterday afternoon when they took a trip to the Herbert P. Schairer farm, 323 Parker Rd. Star attractions - besides the cattle, hogs and chickens - were the young goat and gentle white pony. The youngsters spent the first part of the week preparing for the excursion by making paper animals and barns and talking about their farm friends. Each member of Mrs. Lynne J. Boyle's class had a ride on the pony's back.

TWO BLACK "SHEEP" IN THIS FAMILY: Jeanne, a nanny goat owned by Mr. and Mrs. Milo Ballard on Hitchingham Rd., southwest Augusta township, is the mother of the four little goats shown with her in this picture, two of them white like their mother and two of them black. The kids were six days old when this picture was taken. The Ballards are one of the many farm families in the county raising goats for the nutritious quality of their milk. There are few large flocks in the county.

FIRST UNDER TEST: Hugh Cooper, Washtenaw county goat fancier, leads Michigan's first goat to go under test in the national Dairy Herd Improvement Association out for inspection. The animal, a Nubian, is registered and dropped twin kids when she freshened. She produces between four and five quarts of milk daily and shows a butterfat test of approximately 5 per cent. Standing at Mr. Cooper's right is Guerdon Frost, tester in Washtenaw county's D.H.I.A. group, No. 1, in which the animal is entered. The interested young man at the left is one of Mr. Cooper's two sons, who drink goat milk and say "it's great." Mr. Cooper plans to have several more goats under test in a few weeks.
