Krasny, center, speaks to the first police recruit class in the area to graduate under the state's new Law Enforcement Training Council program. The Training Council outlines program content for police recruits throughout the state and certifies instructors for the basic course given to novice policemen. Krasny in City Council chambers yesterday presented certificates from the Training Council to five city recruits while Ypsilanti Police Chief Ray Walton, second from left, distributed the diplomas to two recruits from his department who completed the nine-week program with the Ann Arbor Department. Stander, center, while Ann Arbor Municipal Court Judge S. J. Elden listens at right. The men in the foreground are Ann Arbor Police Department command officers who gathered yesterday in City Hall to hear Stander review the operation of the new machine. Stander is one of two sheriff's sergeants who attended a week-long course on the breath device. They will test drunk driving suspects for their department and for city police until Ann Arbor obtains a machine of its own.
