VISIT WATER PLANT: Plant Superintendent Walter Muhlitner conducts members of the Ann Arbor League of Women Voters through the city's Water Softening Plant at 919 Sunset Rd., where the women had a chance yesterday to see how the water supply is made safe to drink. The League's tour of Water Department facilities included a stop at the Barton Pumping Station and a visit to the Sewage Treatment Plant on Dixboro Rd., Ann Arbor township. The tour was planned to study Ann Arbor's water problems.

WATER SOFTENING PLANT STARTED: Actual work at the site of the water softening plant started yesterday when this motor driven shovel began the excavation for the plant. Trees such as the one at the right in the picture will be removed and replanted on lawn extensions and in parks.

WATER SOFTENER EQUIPMENT: These huge wash water storage tanks for the water softening plant arrived yesterday at the Ann Arbor railroad station and were transported by truck to the Sunset Rd. location of the plant. The tank at the left is 12 feet long adn the one at the right 36 feet.
