The Schneebergers are general chairmen of the day and the Ken Clarks are in charge of the candy hunt. In addition to picnicking, activities will include a watermelon eating contest, sandbox penny hunt and field events.

RECEIVES AWARD FOR SERVICE: Mrs. Clara Hildinger of W. Liberty St. was presented a citation for "meritorius service" Saturday by the post of the Erwin Prieskorn Unit of the American Legion. Mrs. Hildinger began distributing candy year-round to patients at the Ypsilanti State Hospital several years ago when her husband was a patient there. She still makes weekly trips to the hospital and also makes weekly trips with candy for patients at Battle Creek Hospital where her husband is now.

GETTING READY - Police, with the aid of McDonald's restaurants in the area, are preparing for Halloween ghouls - the real kind. Explorer scout Todd Hansen, left, and Ann Arbor police officer Harry Jinkerson test out a metal detector officers will be using Halloween night to check out candy children are given during trick-or-treat rounds. The detectors, which can spot miniature metal particles, narcotics or drug substances, will be available at McDonald restaurants at 2000 W. Stadium Blvd., and 373 N. Zeeb Road, 3811 Carpenter Road, 4775 Washtenaw Avenue in Ypsilanti, 16 Ecorse Road in Ypsilanti, and 7847 E. Michigan Ave. in Saline. The restaurants will also have a surprise for each child.
