Damage expected to top $50,000 when a check is completed was caused early yesterday when fire swept through the top two floors of the old Allmendinger organ works in the 100 block of S. First St. A large part of the damage was from water used in the three-hour battle in near-zero weather to halt the blaze. The scene during the worst of the fire is shown in the above picture.

WHERE AGED MAN DIED: Ashes and a chimney shown above are the only remains of a house on 3223 McComb St., Platt, which was completely destroyed by fire at 4 o'clock this morning. Nathan Kett, 90 years old, the only resident of the house, was burned to death when two oil drums in the back shed of the house exploded.

Standing on a coke pile, firemen fought a blaze which yesterday afternoon destroyed a 200-foot section of the American Boiler & Foundry Co. plant in Milan. Fire trucks from five communities and two institutions answered the alarm. Explosion of a heating device, used in the welding room, started the fire. No estimate was given as to the total amount of damages.
