Auction-Bound - This little piggy has a reason for his pensive look. He will be auctioned off tonight at the Greenhills School annual spring event for the scholarship fund and bound for slaughter. After a banquet at the Michigan League, Greenhills patrons may dance to the Woody Herman Band and bid on other auction items including jewelry, paintings and a vacation. The pig was donated by Greenhills sophomore David Skjaerlund, shown feeding the pig here. David is a scholarship student who uses money from his pig business to pay the balance of his tuition. He got into the pig business in 1976 with two American Land Race porkers. Now he raises about 100 animals and is thinking of expanding the business to finance his college education. Whoever gets the winning bid on the pig will have a freezer full of pork because Dunbars Dexter Food Lockers will slaughter and dress the animal for free. All proceeds from the dinner, dance and auction will go into the scholarship fund. Tickets to the event may be purchased at the door.
