Your Choice- It's a little harder to fight city hall in Ypsilanti than it is in most other Michigan cities. For one thing, you have to choose which city hall to fight. There are two of them, both with signs. City Manager Stephen Shutt (right) promises to have that number reduced by one very shortly. City offices are to move from the old city hall (below) [this photo], to the new one at One S. Huron this spring. (Staff photos by Larry E. Wright)

Ann Arbor Police Examine Missing Plaques Recovered From Building, June 1965 Photographer: William B. Treml

Published In:
Ann Arbor News, June 18, 1965

Plaques Recovered: Patrolman Richard Anderson and Detective Lt. Eugene Staudenmaier examine two metal plaques recovered yesterday from a campus area building which is being remodeled. The smaller plaque has been missing for some time from the Broadway bridge where it marked the site where the Potawatomi "and other Indian tribes" crossed the Huron River. It also was a marker for the location of the old Washtenaw Hotel. The larger plaque which weights more than 200 pounds notes that the Society of Sigma XI purchased the tablet in 1936 for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the society at Cornell University. Police do not know where the large plaque belongs.

Firemen Wash Fire Station Tower Windows, August 1969
Year:
1969
Published In:
Ann Arbor News, August 19, 1969
Caption:
The Right Ladder For The Job. It's nice to have an extension ladder handy at window-washing time. Everything works out very well in that respect at Ann Arbor's main fire station at E. Huron and Fifth Ave. when the windows in the station's tower become cloudy. There's a triple-extension, 100-foot ladder on hand. Window cleaning, of course, is a bonus benefit. Actually, the ladder must be cleaned from time to time and practice (in this case for Walter Behnke at the right) in maneuvering it is necessary. At the top of the ladder are Michael Jackson and William Lindeman.
