A $500 check was presented yesterday to Mary A. Stevens, 16-year-old Ann Arbor High School senior (center), for her prize-winning essay on the topic, "How Can We Protect Our American Heritage of Personal Freedom?" The Ann Arbor High Parents-Teacher Association also shared in the recognition in the national contest with a $50 check. Nicholas J. Prakken, PTA president (left) accepted that award. Charles A. Norton of Detroit (right), representative of the sponsoring Holmes-Darst Coal Corp of Knoxville, Tenn., made the presentations at the high school.
