There Went The Neighborhood - Audio Interview: Robert Allen

Robert Allen attended Jones School from kindergarten through sixth grade in the 1950s. He remembers walking to school along Beakes Street and playing softball on the playground, with custodian Waltstine Perry as pitcher. He never had a Black teacher in the Ann Arbor Public Schools.

Tough Yardage: Running back Mike Straub (10) of Huron High picks up some tough yardage near midfield in the fourth quarter before being brought to the Hollway Field turf by Ron Sartori of Pioneer. Straub, one of the better prep hockey players around the city in the winter, had a big game against Pioneer with 80 yards in 14 carries.

Hemmed In: Huron High's Reggie Jones (30) breaks loose for a 14-yard gain and a first down deep in Pioneer territory before being tackled by Darnell Kirkland (20) and Kurt Wiese (80) of the Pioneers. In the next quarter, Kirkland provided the winning touchdown of the game on a 70-yard intercepted pass return.
