LEARNING TO OPERATE RESUSCITATOR: Deputy sheriffs and members of the Ann Arbor police and fire departments, and the city and state police at Ypsilanti are learning how to use the sheriff's department's new $400 resuscitator-inhalator. Sheriff Jacob B. Andres, in the above photograph, is showing Trooper Charles Allen of the Ypsilanti state police post and Sgt. M. G. "Red" Howard of the Ann Arbor police how to revive a person nearly drowned or asphyxiated. One of the county jail prisoners is serving as "victim" for demonstration. Purchase of the equipment was authorized recently by the board of supervisors.

The rear interior of the unit is shown in the above photograph along with the hospital-type cot and resuscitator in the foreground. Sheriff Jacob B. Andres is standing at the left; Deputy R. Day Bird is sitting on the auxiliary bench inside, and Deputy Fred H. Sodt is standing at the right holding an auxiliary pole stretcher. Deputies Bird and Sodt supervised installation of the ambulance, first aid and fire fighting equipment.
