QUIRK GARDENS BEING CLEANED UP: Ypsilanti Kiwanis Club members yesterday launched a three-day work bee to restore former large landscaped gardens at the rear of the city's Quirk Home building (top rear), where Municipal Court and other city offices will be located early next month. The garden area, below the large house which the city recently purchased, is fenced and on the same level as the adjoining Riverside Park. Kiwanians working at the site yesterday included (left to right) Samuel W. Walthour, the Rev. William R. Shaw and William C. Durant.

CHARTER NIGHT PLANNED: Officials of the new Kiwanis Club of Greater Ypsilanti met last night ot plan the organization's charter night banquet Aug. 27. The new group, which meets Thursday nights, was organized by the Ypsilanti Kiwanis Club, which holds its meetings at noon on Mondays. Going over plans for the chartering affair are (seated) Harold D. Beadle (left) of the "luncheon" Kiwanis Club and Edwin E. Ensign, first president of the new organization. Standing is Charles M Getson, jr., chairman of the charter banquet arrangements for the "dinner" Kiwanians.

Ypsilanti Welcomes Its 'Mayor For A Day': Yale Mayor John J Kaatz (second from left), was officially welcomed as Ypsilanti's "mayor for a day" at a breakfast this morning in the Huron Hotel. Kaatz, exchanging with Ypsilanti Mayor Carl J. Scheffler, is mayor of a small woolen manufacturing town in northwest St. Clair county. On hand to greet him today were City Manager N. G. Damoose (left), Mayor pro-tem Doris E. Milliman, Councilman Everett C. (Eddie) Edwards (center background), and Councilman Rodney E. Hutchinson (right). Kaatz toured the Ypsilanti Ford plant and Willow Run Airport before guesting with the Kiwanis Club this noon.

RECEIVES KIWANIS CHARTER: E. Edwin Ensign (center), president of the new Greater Ypsilanti Kiwanis Club, receives the club charter from Sidney F. Main (left) of Harrison, governor of the Michigan District of Kiwanis International. The framed certificate was presented last night during a charter night program for the new club at the First Methodist Church in Ypsilanti. At right is Duane Bauer of Whitmore Lake, lieutenant governor for Michigan Kiwanis Division 6. More than 300 Kiwanians and guests attended the dinner meeting.

Antiques On Tap The third annual Antique Fair and Sale, sponsored by the good Samaritan Auxiliary to the Catholic Social Services, opened at noon today at the Kiwanis building, 200 First. Examining some of the items are, from the left, Viola Borgert, Irene McNamara and Fred Brusher, general chairman of the event. The sale will be in progress until 10 p.m. today, from noon until 10 p.m. Saturday and from noon until 6 p.m. Sunday. Catholic Social Services is a United Fund agency.
