Anthony Calderone says only a 'very light odor' is emitted from the waste lagoons near his pig barns. Manure from the barns is washed into the lagoons where it is aerated by machines. Twice a year, Calderone sprays the contents of his lagoons onto his crops.

Believe It Or Not: Sow Bears Two Litters In Two Weeks: This Chester White sow on the farm of Fred J. Seitz on Fletcher Rd., Lima township, gave birth to 23 pigs, and they came in two "sections." She delivered a litter of 13 pigs on March 31, and a second litter of 10, nine of which are shown above, arrived April 14 -- much to the surprise of Mr. Seitz. All of the first litter died or were killed by the sow when a sudden change in weather made it necessary to transfer the family to a warmer place.
