WHY THE DELAY? "Time flies," think Gretchen Slenger (left), of 4 Fair Oaks Pkwy., and Sharen and Harry Kelly, of 1158 Baldwin Ave., as they wait impatiently while the power shovel prepares the wading pool at Burns Park. The wading pool is being constructed as a civic project at the expense of the Ann Arbor Kiwanis Club, as is another pool at West Side Park. The pools will serve to relieve the no-swimming situation Ann Arbor kiddies have come to realize since the pollution of the Huron river due to war-created sewage conditions at Dexter.

FUN FOR YOUNGSTERS: A new wading pool at Burns Park was presented to the children of Ann Arbor by the local Kiwanis Club in dedicatory ceremonies held at 7 o'clock last night at the park. Children in the Burns Park neighborhood are shown in the above picture after entering the pool for the first time. Speakers for the occasion included Harold Barnum, chairman of the project, Hod W. Campbell, president of the Kiwanis Club, and Robert Campbell, president of the Ann Arbor park board, who accepted the gift to the city and in turn presented it to the children. An identical pool will be constructed at West Park by the Kiwanians.

CRACK THAT WHIP! Ann Arbor's outdoor skating season began yesterday as the Park Department opened the city's rinks earlier than usual, thanks to the current pre-Christmas cold snap. And skaters were quick to take advantage of their opportunity, as this picture, made at the Burns Park rink, proves. Nine boys have organized a game of "crack the whip."
