Participating in formal ceremonies yesterday commemorating the start of construction for Ypsilanti's new Amos Washington subdivision was this group of housing and city officials. Watching as Mayor Carl J. Scheffler (kneeling) lays a foundation block are (left to right) Amos Washington, city housing director; Harry M. Steffey, assistant director of the Detroit insuring office of the Federal Housing Administration; realtor Dwight E. Hand and City Councilman John Burton. The area will include 22 single family homes laid out along a new street extending north from Harriet St. and south of Ainsworth Circle.
