New Bridge: Black lines in aerial view show where the new Factory-Spring Street bridge over the Huron River will go in Ypsilanti. The new four-lane bridge will replace the two-lane structure to the right. A swap of land between the city and Ford Motor Co. is allowing the new bridge and new roadway to replace the old structure and stretch of road above the old bridge. Purpose of abandoning the old stretch of road is to make the road straighter and safer. The bridge construction is part of a $2.3-million project made possible by federal and local funds. It includes the widening of streets and new sidewalks for the surrounding area. The bridge is expected to open to traffic by November with total project completion forecast for June 1979.
