His water color, "City Landscape," has won for Tristan Meinecke, University art student and son of Prof. and Mrs. Bruno Meinecke, 1204 Ferdon Rd., an invitation to exhibit it in the International Exhibition of Water Colors at the Chicago Art Museum. DETROIT IN 1820: Shortly after Hiker Evans visited the city on the 4,000-mile tour. This picture, showing the steamer Walk-in-the-Water, is from a sketch by the famous painter Whistler's father, George H. Whistler. Detroit is on the distant shore of the river. The picture is reproduced here through the courtesy of its owner, Lloyd A. Brown, curator of maps at the Clements library in Ann Arbor.

AT THE CURRENT RACKHAM ART EXHIBIT: An exhibit of paintings by Mrs. Alice K. Reischer of Hamilton Pl. on "Tunisia and the Mediterranean in Water Color" will open tonight in the Rackham galleries with an invitational reception. It is sponsored by the Horace H.. Rackham school of graduate studies and will be open to the public tomorrow. Above, Eileen Bohnet of Michigan Ave. is looking at one of the water color sketches, "Mohammedan Gypsy, Bosnia."

CHAPIN PAINTING: "Near the Ex Convento" is the title of this painting by Myron B. Chapin of Ann Arbor included in the Ann Arbor Art association exhibit opening today in Alumni Memorial hall. It was painted at Taxco, Mexico, and is one of a number of paintings by the Chapin family to be seen in the current exhibition of the Art Association.
