Brazilian Students Strum Tunes Of Home Odair (left) and Sergio Assad, brothers from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, give a classical guitar concert to a Pioneer High School music appreciation class. The youths are in Ann Arbor on a six-month scholarship from Youth For Understanding. Sergio, 16, is attending Pioneer High. Odair, 12, is a student at Slauson Junior High. The brothers study in Brazil under a teacher named Monina Tavora who is a former pupil of famed Spanish classical guitarist Segovia. The boys, who are living with Ann Arbor families, came to the city last month. They will return to Brazil this summer. Robert Pratt, chairman of the Pioneer High music department, says he plans to ask the talented youths to give other classical guitar demonstrations to Pioneer music classes. Bathtubs on Wheels The Garden City First Baptist Church entry in the first annual Bathtub Derby at Pioneer High School Saturday heads for the first turn in the powder-puff event. The gaily-decorated tub, named Fan-tub-ulous and running solely on girl power, didn't make it through the turn but others did. The powder-puff race was one of several for which trophies were awarded. There was also a contest for the best decorated bathtub. Other prizes were given for sprint and marathon winners. The derby was sponsored by the Huron Valley Youth for Christ.
