SWIFT RUN DRAIN: Costing $228,000, work on the Swift Run Drain in Pittsfield township has started. The drain pipes will replace the open drain shown in the picture. Serving two-thirds of Pittsfield Village, Pittsfield Park and all of the township east of US-23 between Packard Rd. and Washtenaw Ave. and Oak Park and Washtenaw Heights Subdivisions north of the Central Ave., the drain will connect with the Ann Arbor trunkline near Hogback Rd. and Huron River Dr. The Ginno Innai Construction Co. of Dearborn is doing the work, financed by a 20-year bond issue. The picture was taken between Pittsfield Park and US-23.

JUDGE INSPECTS CEMETERY: Before adjourning the case for two months, Circuit Judge Herman Dehnke of Harrisville (right) recessed the court hearing on the fate of this "historic" cemetery to inspect the site off Packard Rd. near Yost Blvd. The Daughters of the American Revolution which is seeking to preserve the cemetery, built the stone wall in 1938. Attorneys Clan Crawford, jr., (left), who represents the DAR, and Arthur C. Lehman, Pittsfield township attorney, accompanied Judge Dehnke on his inspection.

Santa Claus has used just about every type of vehicle to arrive in the Ann Arbor area this year. Yesterday he showed up at the Pittsfield Township hall on S. State Rd. on the township fire truck. In his greeting of children of township firemen, Santa (Ira F. Wisely of 1209 Clague) is aided by (from left) Pittsfield Firemen Robert West, Richard Payeur, Harold Fritts, Al Ebersberger and Russ Payeur. Usually Santa arrives in a more prosaic vehicle.
