A local couple escaped almost uninjured when a northbound train hit their car and carried it 187 feet at the William St - Ann Arbor Railroad crossing shortly before 5 p.m. yesterday. Note the marks made by the car's wheels as the vehicle, straddling the tracks, was pushed along by the engine.

AFTERMATH OF CRASH: This car carried three Washtenaw county men to their deaths early this morning when it crashed into an Ann Arbor Railroad freight train at the N. Territorial Rd. crossing, north of Ann Arbor. Killed were John L. Satterla, 25, of Whitmore Lake; Lyle F. Miller, 21, of 5550 Pontiac Rd.; and Harold L. Brenner, 23, of 7210 Whitmore Lake Rd. It was the worst county crash since 1947, when a truck-car accident on the Willow Run Expressway claimed four lives.
