WHERE TWO DIED: Two men were killed instantly late yesterday afternoon when this light plane crashed seconds after it took off from the Saline Airport. The dead are Rudolph Schumaier, 44, owner of the airport, and William Beardsley, 49, of Macon.

Volunteers Fight To Save Dam: Seventy-five volunteers from Saline and Milan fought to keep raging floodwaters from overwhelming the Soybrands dam on US-12 in Saline. The wooden barricades and the sandbags were thrown in to stave off the waters this morning. In mid-morning it appeared that the battle was a losing one but the crest was believed reached at 10:45 and the dam was still holding out.
