SIGN OF FALL: "Baggage-smashers" at the Michigan Central depot know the University is back in session as they ruefully eye the forerunners of approximately 14,000 trunks or other pieces of luggage they will handle before the rush subsides. Surveying a part of the morning's load are Ken Behnke (left) and Bill Schlect (right). Extra help has been added by both the Railway Express Co. and the railroad to expedite deliveries.

Warners Depart: Nothing -- not even the year's worst snowstorm dumping that white stuff on some 30 passengers forced to wait outside the Ann Arbor depot -- could stop Mr. and Mrs. James Warner of Ypsilanti from taking the journey planned for them today. They're on their way to Illinois to meet their son, U.S. Marine Capt. James H. Warner, a POW in Hanoi for the past five years. Here, Warner and his Marine escort possibly get ready to board the 9:15 a.m. train to Chicago. The Ann Arbor depot doesn't open until 1 p.m.
