MAY DAY - It may have been a few days after the rest of the world celebrated May Day, but children helped deck out a maypole in Ypsilanti on Saturday with colorful drawings. Pictured here are Arista and Zachary Metler, whose work was to be attached to the pole. The painting session was held at the Ypsilanti Farmer's Market in Depot Town. It was part of a "Spring '84" celebration, co-hosted by Depot Town Association and the market.

May Day Celebration Symbolizing the start of a month-long celebration honoring the Blessed Virgin, women of St. John's Catholic Church in Ypsilanti held a May Day procession this morning from the church to an outdoor shrine where a crown of flowers was placed on a statue of Mary. Catholics counter the Communists' May Day demonstrations with religious observances. Mary Manion of 709 Dwight St., Ypsilanti is placing the crown.
