Medals For Dead Soldier. U.S. Army Col. M. Dean Schiller presents nine posthumous awards to the family of WO John D. Eddy, who was the 100th area serviceman reported killed in Vietnam combat. Ceremonies at North Hall were attended by (left to right) WO Eddy's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delvord Eddy; parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Reich, the serviceman's widow, Carol, and children, Linda, 3, and Robert, 10 months. WO Eddy received the Air Medal for heroism, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Air Medal, National Defense and Vietnam Service Medals and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. In addition, South Vietnam presented him the Military Merit Medal and Gallantry Cross With Palm. WO Eddy was killed in January when the helicopter gunship he was copiloting was struck by enemy gunfire and crashed.

In His Memory. Seven medals earned by Spec. 4 George V. Airey Jr., who died May 9 in Vietnam combat, were presented by Col. H. K. Reynolds, chairman of the University Department of military science, to Mr. and Mrs. George Airey Sr. and daughters Aleyn and Dawn at their home at 901 Avon Rd yesterday. The 23-year-old soldier had been awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Expert Rifleman's Badge and, posthumously, a second Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal.
