Eve Schmale saw no reason why an accident that blinded her 10 years ago should mean turning away from years of volunteer service. When one agency couldn't find enough for her to do, she got in touch with Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and ended up as coordinator of volunteers at the Washtenaw Intermediate School District. She marvels at the "inspired" WISD program, which, she says, enables mentally retarded people to "live like human beings instead of in institutions."

Here is a portion of the Washtenaw Intermediate School District's administrative services building, presently under construction on grounds at the corner of Wagner and Scio Church Rds. School officials say the new 23,000-square foot facility, which will house more than 100 employees, is scheduled for completion this fall. Work was begun on the building in September of 1968. The facility will cost nearly $1 million.
