Today was tree-planting day at Carpenter School, east of US-23 between Washtenaw and Packard Rds. Each child planted two red pine seedlings in a half-acre plot on the seven-acre school site as part of a conservation project. A total of about 200 trees was to be planted. Some of the seedlings may be used for school landscaping and others may be sold as Christmas trees. Here Judith Sellers (center), 8, first grade, gets some advice from Ernest A. Bottke, jr., manager of the Pinckney Recreation Area. Girl at left is unidentified.
