Motorists entering Ann Arbor on N. Main St. have observed the Economy Baler Co. sign at 1254 N. Main about 40 years. The sign was being removed this week in connection with a 24,000-square-foot addition for manufacturing that Economy Baler is building and extensive modernization of other sections of the plant. Part of the addition will front for 368 feet on N. Main and replace an obsolete structure. Economy Baler employs 75 persons.

Blacksmith Herman Weiss of 618 Packard St., who will be 75 years old Tuesday, works busily at his forge in Economy Baler Co., where he forges parts for baling machines. Weiss has spent almost 62 years at blacksmithing, starting at the trade when he was still a young boy on his father's farm near Oshkosh, Wis.

OPERATION COMPLETE: Here in the large assembly room, the finishing touches are being put on industrial baling presses which range up to 50,000 pounds each and cost as much as $25,000. The presses are assembled down the center of the room. To the far right is the testing pit where each unit is checked in full. To the far left is the sprayer where the machines are painted. Out to the far door, a boxcar is ready to carry the presses, in sections, to their final destinations.
