Onlookers At The Plymouth Ice Festival, January 1996 Photographer: William Jordan

'Dance of Paradise,' an entry in the two-person 20-hour ice sculpting competition drew lots of attention during its creation at the Plymouth Ice Festival Saturday. The warming trend made working with the ice more difficult, but just right for the half-million people who are expected to visit the show that ends Monday.

A Bike Hanging Off Of The 'Tree Of Knowledge' Sculpture, June 1984 Photographer: Larry E. Wright
Year:
1984
Published In:
Ann Arbor News, June 19, 1984
Caption:
AVANT-GARDE BIKE RACK - Pranksters are up to their old tricks, adding new touches to the sculpture known as 'Tree of Knowledge.' The hanging bike, however, is harmless compared with previous pranks. When the sculpture graced the traffic island at State and liberty streets five years ago, vandals repeatedly splashed it with paint. Later, it sat in a city storage yard, entangled in overgrown weeds. The 1,600-pound work, created by former Ann Arborite Ronald Bauer, was sandblasted and re-installed two weeks ago at Hanover square, a mini-park at the entrance of Packard Road and Division Street.
