In the Spring, Tra La: Flowers that bloom before the spring are even more welcome because they herald the early end of winter. A passerby on E. William St. spotted these snowdrops on the south side of the Junius E. Beal residence at William St. and S. Fifth Ave. Tulips and crocuses, too, are pushing up through the ground these days.

Beal from a cutting of the original elm tree planted by George Washington in the nation's capital, according to an Ann Arbor forester, Walter S. Wickliffe. A new public library is scheduled to be built on the same property at E. William St. and S. Fifth Ave.
