The State Theater's huge new screen will be used for the first time tomorrow night to carry "All the Brothers Were Valiant." The size of the screen is illustrated here as Gerald Hoag, Butterfield Theaters manager in Ann Arbor, stands on the stage. The full screen measures 43 by 24 feet in contrast to the standard screen (inner dotted lines) which is 18 feet by 16 feet. The area outlined by the large square represents the so-called "miracle mirror" screen which will be used for some Hollywood productions. Tomorrow's film will fill all but about five feet on each edge of the stage-wide screen. "The Robe," opening here on Thanksgiving Day, will use the entire screen area.

'THE IDEAL THEATRE': Examining one of eight models of "The Ideal Theatre" prepared by leading architects are Paul Schweikher (left) head of the department of architecture at Carnegie Institute of Technology, and George C. Izenour, director of the electro-mechanical laboratory of the Yale School of Drama. The models and plans, prepared under a Ford Foundation grant, were displayed in Ann Arbor last week as part of the University's "Theatre And Main Street" conference. The conference drew theatre professionals and architects from Canada, Germany, France, England and many parts of the United States to discuss the future of community professional theatre. The conference was designated a "first" by the participants.

GETTING ACQUAINTED: Lydia Mendelssohn Theater renovations are drawing praises from members of the APA. They were enthusiastic over the moving of these "lines" from stage right to stage left, freeing a large area at stage right that had been blocked before. Here Rosemary Harris (center) and two other members of the University's new resident professional theater company examine the impressive bank of cables and counterweights.
