LEERING HORSE: Some of the huge balloon figures, particularly large ferocious ones like this horse, frightened some of the small fry who crowded along the line of march. Paraders had some strenuous exercise "riding" or "chaperoning" their large charges. By the end of the parade, many were almost too tired to lunge the amusing animal figures at the appreciative spectators, young and old. (Other pictures on page 24.)
