THEY CLIMAXED 103 BOUTS OF GLOVE ACTION: Jim Anderson, Flint open heavyweight, is shown above landing a stiff right to the jaw of Joe Lane of Monroe in the final bout of the Golden Glove finals last night at the Armory. Anderson won the decision in this fight and it climaxed the 1940 local Golden Gloves in which there were 103 bouts in four nights of fighting.

WON THREE BOUTS BY QUICK KNOCKOUTS: Tom Flake, University of Michigan student, is shown above just after he landed the knockout punch to Wilmore Yaw of Cassidy Lake in the novice light heavyweight finals last night of the local Golden Glove tournament. Flake broke all records by appearing in three bouts in the tournament and yet fought less than four rounds. He knocked out Yaw and Ronald Swegles of Plymouth in the first round and put I. Labunes of Monroe away in the second. He will be one of the Ann Arbor favorites in the state tournament to be held next week at Grand Rapids.

CHAMPION TO ENTER OPEN DIVISION: Shown above at the left is Cy Hughes, who won the novice lightweight title last year in the Ann Arbor Golden Gloves boxing tournament. He also was awarded The Ann Arbor News trophy for being the outstanding novice. As a winner of a title, Hughes must campaign in the open division this year. Above he is shown about to spar with Steve Toth, Co. K 160-pounder who won his opening bout as a novice last year against Otto Urpilon of the N.Y.A. Toth injured his hand in this bout and was forced to withdraw from the tournament. Trainer Al Baker, who has trained all of the Co. K boxers in previous Ann Arbor tournaments, is shown in the center.

Joe Papuzyiski of Milan is the fighter shown at the left, just after landing a hard left to the jaw of Charles Leabu of Ypsilanti, who is starting to fall to the canvas. Leabu was out cold and took the fatal count of 10 in the second round of his novice middleweight scrap at the Armory last night. Referee Let Philbin is shown at the extreme left. Twelve knockouts featured the card of 27 bouts. Semi-finals in the tournament will be held next Monday night with the finals on Wednesday.

THESE GOLDEN GLOVE BOYS CAN TAKE IT: At least Chuck Winiski of Belleville is shown above just after taking a solid left punch on the button. It was delivered by Larry Parmenter of Northville and sent Winiski completely out of the ring. Chuck climbed back into the ring after landing in the laps of spectators and the next time that Parmenter connected Winiski went down for the count in the second round. These boys are novice lightweights. Their bout was one of the features of the 27 Golden Glove fights held at the Armory last night. The finals are scheduled for tomorrow night.
