TEACHERS AND PARENTS SUPERVISE: Tappan school called in mothers of pupils to aid staff in conducting the school's first air raid drill yesterday. Pupils are taught three different alarms. One signal keeps all in school, in corridors; another allows some to go home. A number of the students are pictured (above) in a corridor designated by Fire Chief Benjamin Zahn as one of the "most safe" in the event of an air raid.

TAKE THEIR CHAIRS ALONG: Lower graders in Tappan school carried their chairs with them from their classrooms to appointed places of safety in the air raid drill. They took the precaution seriously, as their faces indicate, and passed through the halls without confusion. Training like this, officials hope, will prevent confusion should an air raid ever occur here.
