NEVER WAS CROSS COUNTRY LIKE THIS: Running a two-mile cross country course is part of the physical conditioning program for Army and Navy trainees at the University so yesterday afternoon the boys made a game of it on the strength of an Army challenge. Two flights of 350 runners each took off from South Ferry Field in races where the finishing position of every man counted. Both races, which were started by the veteran George A. 'Doc' May, were runaways for the Navy which scored 13,018 points against the Army's 16,525 (low score wins) in the first run and 9,146 for 12,202 points for the Army in the second race, start of which is pictured here. Best time was recorded by Navyman Louis Eaton who did the course up through the University golf links in 10:36 nearly equalling the course record of 10:32 which Eaton holds.
