Trees Cooperate For Dedication - The Elizabeth R. Dean Promenade along Main St. was formally dedicated last night. Some of the trees, planted last fall, cooperated for the dedication by being in bloom, such as these in the 300 block of Main. A large crowd was on hand for the dedication ceremonies and the street dance that followed. A portion of the cost of the promenade was paid from the Dean funds willed the city by Miss Dean. Cost of the promenade was estimated at $121, 835 but has gone about $12,000 over the estimated cost.

Promenade Parking Problem? Who says the Main St. Promenade has cut down on the number of parking places in the central business district? Actually, parking was the farthest thing from the mind of this automobile's driver, Larry Dishman of 729 Brookside. He was making a right turn onto Main from William when he said a car on Main began to back up. Dishman told police that in order to avoid the other car he drove his vehicle to the right, hit the curb and bounced onto the concrete planter. Police said the estimated damage to Dishman's car was about $10. The promenade wasn't damaged.

City Parks Department employe Merle Rohraff waters potted geraniums along the Elizabeth Dean Promenade on Main St. After these blooms fade the pots will be replaced with others containing later-blooming chrysanthemums, which in turn will be removed to make way for spring bulbs.

Sparkling Lights and Glistening Snow - An estimated $2,500 worth of bulbs are shedding some light on the Main St. promenade during this Christmas season. The lights were strung by the city's Parks Department and are owned by the Chamber of Commerce. All white, they dot the street from Packard to Huron. This is the way they looked on a quiet Sunday night.

'Awash' Job - Downtown merchants were "swabbing the decks" today in their annual cleanup of the Main St. promenade, using brooms and water hoses. The promenade had collected great amounts of rubbish during the long winter months which saw snow covering at least part of the promenade most of the time. On the job are (left to right) Tom Neff, Joe Knieper, Harlow Olson and Jerry Keyes. Many others assisted.
