CUTTING A FAST CORNER: Dale Ottmar is shown above cutting around one of the obstacles in the race for boys held yesterday at Burns Park in the preliminaries of the city skating carnival. Although Ottmar appears to be making a fast turn, he placed second to Herbert Upton. Both boys, as well as Don Rauser qualified for the finals to be held Saturday at Wines Field.

Winning Smile, Losing Guess Three-year-old Michael Herlache (right) didn't win the jelly bean guessing context at the Allen Playground Carnival yesterday. After several minutes of deep thought, and with the help of his pal, Jeff Wiesner (left), and his brother Daniel, Michael took a deep breath and announced his decision: "Two." Proceeds from the carnival will be used for a party for the children at the end of the summer.
