HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Twelve-year-old Lena Lou Sturgill, a Girl Scout of Troop Seven at the Rackham School of Special Education in Ypsilanti, receives a piece of the Girl Scout national birthday cake from United Air Lines stewardess, Florence McCabe. The piece of cake, flown from Los Angeles yesterday, was presented to the troop in honor of its help during the past year to hunger-stricken children of Europe. Lena, who suffered an attack of infantile paralysis several years ago and her fellow troop members, all physically handicapped, were taken on a tour of the Mainliner by Capt. W. L. Fagen, nearest the door, and First Officer Price Downey.

HONOR REALTORS: J. Karl Malcolm, 83-year-old local realtor, receives from Donald A. Duncanson, Ann Arbor Board of Realtors president, a plaque in recognition of his service as president of the board in 1928 and 1934. The plaque and 11 others were presented to former presidents at a realtor board Christmas party Thursday at the Washtenaw Country Club. Those shown who received plaques are (left to right) Roswell Dillon, Wendell Hobbs, Alfred E. Shanklin, George Cornell, Stewart Butts, Maynard Newton, sr., Floyd Sergeant and Edwin Haab. Three others not shown received plaques. They are V. O. Nelson, Louis C. Andrews, sr., and L. D. Carr of Frankfort. Carr, who observes his 100th birthday Jan. 29, was the board's president in 1920.

RECEIVES LEGION OF MERIT AWARDED HUSBAND POSTHUMOUSLY: Mrs. Paz L. Martelino, now of Ann Arbor, widow of Col. Pastor Martelino, who died as a prisoner of the Japanese, was presented this morning with the Legion of Merit awarded posthumously for her husband's outstanding service as chief of staff and adviser to the commanding general of the Philippine Army's 31st division. Col. Karl E. Henion, commandant of the campus ROTC, is shown presenting the award. In the background are two of Mrs. Martelino's five children, Pastor jr. (right), and Lucille (center), and her niece, Lourdes Segundo (left). The ROTC staff stood in formation for the ceremony, held in front of the ROTC building.
