Up in the air over his new school outfit is Steven O'Neal, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William O'Neal of 1615 Pear Street. He wears corduroy pants in the new "thick 'n thin" wale, color-matched with a ribbed turtleneck sweater. Sporting the fall look on the ground are Connie and Chris Jahnke, twin children of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Jahnke of 3121 Dexter Road. Connie wears the mini-version of the elongated sweater dress in gold with green edging and the new tassled kilt socks. Her brother is quite the young man in his mid-wale corduroy slacks, and a knit turtleneck shirt with the V-insert effect. Steven will enter second grade at Northside Elementary, while the twins will be second graders at St. Thomas School. The scene is the University's Diagonal on central campus.

DIFFERENT BIRTHDAYS: It's a bit unusual for twins to have different birthdays, but that's the case with Mrs. Jessie Birton's twin girls, who are getting ready to leave St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Janice Marie (left) arrived on Nov. 7 and Jeanette was born 26 minutes later - on Nov. 8. The Birtons have nine other children at home.

All Paths Lead To School. Walking stone walls beats walking sidewalks, and the added height gives a better view of back-to-school finery. The seventh-grade twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Clark of 1515 Creal Crescent, Karen (in front) and Kim, aren't look-alikes and don't dress identically. Yet both agree that dropped waist dresses with pleated skirts are right for their action-packed moments at Forsythe Junior High School. Karen's cream-colored sweater blends with her wine-colored wool jumper which has a solid top and houndstooth checked skirt. Kim wears a wool flannel dress in white and grey with a camel self-belt - a color combination touted for fall.
