WON STATE SCHOLASTIC GOLF TITLE: University High's golf squad, shown above, annexed the state Class C-D title at Kalamazoo Saturday after tying for the state crown in 1939. The team was beaten only by Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Central during the season. It also won the regional title. All six boys shown above will return to U High next season, as five of them are juniors and one, Dunan Noble, is a sophomore. Reading from left to right, the Cub golfers are: Jack Paul, Jack Shipman, Owen Johnson, Capt. Howard Wikel, Duncan Noble and Milledge Bullard.

WON TROPHIES IN EVERY SPORT: University high had a brilliant athletic record during the past year, winning titles in every sport in which the Cubs competed. Here are some of the captains and their trophies from left to right: Bill Brown, track captain and state Class C champion high-jumper; Howard Wikel, captain of golf team that won regional and state titles; Johnny Ehlers, basketball captain which won Huron league title and was unbeaten during regular season; Ralph Beuhler, who paired with Ehlers to win the state class C-D doubles title in tennis and Bill Gallup, captain of the tennis team which won regional and Huron league titles. The swimming trophies won by U High in winning the state Class B title for the first time are shown on the table as well as the Good Neighborhood trophy and medley relay swimming cup.

The team won the title although it was defeated by the All-Stars recruited from the other four teams in the league in the All-Star game, 2-0. Reading from left to right the players are: Top row - Bob Davis, Earl Smith, coach; Owen Johnson, Alex Jaffe, manager; Junior Fahrner, coach; Cyril David and Dick Drury. Next to East in order are Johnny Ehlers, Jack Tillotson, Strat Brown, Bill Brown, Willis Glas, Howard Wikel, Roscoe Bonisteel jr. and Ralph Buehler. The Cubs have won nine out of 10 games and are tied for the leadership of the Huron League. In the lower picture members of the St. Thomas team manage to muster a few smiles as they vow to do their best despite the weakened condition of Capt. Bobby Otto. Otto was in bed with the flu when this picture was taken but is expected to be in the starting line-up tonight.
