The city's celebration of its 150th anniversary next year should find Ann Arbor ablaze with flowers under a program sponsored by the Beautification Committee of the Sesquicentennial Commission. The committee, with help from local scouts, students and various civic groups hopes to plant some 20,000 bulbs at various public places. A parent, Basil Babcock, helps youngsters from Abbot School, 2670 Sequoia Parkway, plant bulbs on the school grounds. The students are, from left, Scott Clark, Beth Borton, Dianna Clark, Gaye Hines and Tina Clark.

THEY THINK IT'S SPRING: A prime example of this year's freak fall is this lilac bush blooming in the yard of Mrs. Catherine Gordon, 200 W. Jefferson St. Many local residents have reported "spring" flowers of various types in bloom this fall, but University botanists said the flowering lilacs were particularly unusual.
