POINTING THE WAY: Pioneer Art Weid's right-hand index finger is still extended after his signal to Teammate Lot Fonville to "get No. 47" (Battle Creek's Emmett Brown) and thus clear the way for a 47-yard TD jaunt. Fonville really put a block on Brown and Weid moved untouched into the Bearcat end zone after a pretty run. This was Ann Arbor High's second touchdown which came early in the second period. The Pioneers added two more.

WHOA THERE! Battle Creek's hard-going Tom Gould proved a problem to the pioneers throughout the game. Here he's being stopped by Jim Dixon who caught him from behind after a seven-yard gain.

TURNER TURNS IT ON: Ann Arbor High Wingback Jim Turner hasn't always enjoyed good luck with the spinner-handoff reverse this season but he and his helpers made it work for a 50-yard touchdown run in the third period last night. Here the Pioneer halfback is just getting into full stride as Battle Creek's John Keagle makes an ineffective lunge in his direction. Turner was helped later by Garland Cobb's key block.

HELPING HANDS - AND FEET: Sideline help is appreciated in all sports and there were good examples of it yesterday as Ann Arbor High won a dual track meet from Battle Creek. At top, an unidentified fan strains right along with Pioneer Bennie Haywood but the extra help did no good. Haywood missed at 5 feet.

AROUND THE TURN AND AWAY THEY GO: Pioneer Bill Koch has victory in mind as the field rounds the first turn in the second section of the Five-A League 440-dash. From left to right are Battle Creek's Dick Donnell and Glenn Falcon, Jackson's Richard Hinkle, Sexton's Doug Huggett, Koch, and Eastern's Don Higel. The little flags help mark lanes for the runners who received a staggered start. Koch was the winner while Hinkle was second and Higel placed third.
